Loyalty

What is it about our pets that makes us smile and feel wonderful from a place so deep in our souls that nothing, nor anyone else can touch?

I used to have a a bulldog named Capone Fabulous Wiggle-butt.  Capone was the name my son gave him and the Fabulous Wiggle-butt was from our bulldog’s father.  He was a pure bred English bulldog.  Capone was a very happy energetic dog with tons of personality and a little bit of sass.  I would take him out to do his business, and on occasion he’d get away from me and run around the yard like a mad man.  He would tilt his head in a way that let you know he was very proud of himself and would give me the look of try and catch me now……ha-ha.  I remember every time my son would walk into a room Capone was in he would immediately drop down and assume the position that indicated he expected my son to give him a back rub.  He loved back rubs – he would moan and groan and carry on with complete satisfaction.

I used to have these white sheer curtains that hung across our patio doors and when Capone would get into trouble, he would hide behind them, not realizing we could see him.  Of course we just had to play along and pretend we couldn’t see him and would starting calling out “Capone…where are you?”  He would sit very-very still and as quiet as a mouse until he felt it was safe to come out.  Yes, he was spoiled to say the least and we will always remember the love and joy he brought us.

Unfortunately, my husband’s health was increasingly getting worse and because of unforeseen circumstances, we had to adopt our beloved Capone out to a wonderful family that live on a farm with several children.  We knew they would give him the love we did and he would be happy there.  It was a very tough decision and especially heartbreaking for my son.

Our pets give us some of the biggest joys in our lives and they are the most loyal beings we could ever ask for.  They love us unconditionally and expect nothing in return.  They can be funny, moody, goofy and yes even do dumb things at times.

We could take a lesson or two from our pets on how life should be lived.  They are always there for us ready and available to love us unconditionally, play with us when we feel like playing, sit quietly on our laps and stand by our side when need them. They are so devoted to us that they constantly want our attention and jump for joy when they see us come home after a long days work.   If you have any pets, I hope you are greeted with excitement, joy, wet kisses and love from your beloved animal after coming back home.  Until next time…God Bless you.
